Miami Dade County
When COVID-19 hit, Miami-Dade County experienced challenges balancing regulations while ensuring riders had a safe and reliable transit experience.
Through Velocia’s modular and adaptable platform, we were able to help tackle these challenges through three distinct programs, which resulted in cost savings, increased customer touch points, and improvements in service.
Safe Ridership
The challenge
To ensure proper compliance with COVID-19 protocols, including mask wearing and social distancing, Miami-Dade was looking to dispatch COVID-19 safety ambassadors in a targeted, strategic and efficient way.
The solution
Velocia developed and executed a survey to identify where COVID-19 protocol compliance was an issue, leveraging this data to more effectively dispatch COVID-19 safety ambassadors.
The results
Miami-Dade County was able to target and dispatch ambassadors to the North East corridor after identifying that safe-ridership compliance was 24% lower than others across the system.

Demand Management Program
The challenge
Approximately 400 riders/day were being left behind due to social distance and bus capacity restrictions, despite ridership levels sitting at 20-30% of pre-COVID numbers.
The solution
Segment rider and reward them for taking transit 15-30 min earlier or later than peak routine commute times, or to leverage micro-mobility options during peak times.
The results
The program lead to Miami-Dade leadership referencing Velocia as a contributor to the reduction of people being left behind while COVID-19 distancing protocols were in place at the 2021 APTA conference.

Transit Ambassador Program
The challenge
Getting customers to describe their experiences using transit and promoting ridership.
The solution
Velocia implemented a Transit Ambassador Program, where consistent transit riders became ambassadors, who shared feedback on everything from cleanliness and safety to overall operations via regular surveys.
